Invitation

The MassMin Organizing Committee cordially invites you to participate in MassMin 2008, June 9-11, in Luleå, Sweden.

Mass mining can be defined as underground mining with production exceeding 10kt/day or 3Mt/year. Mining methods such as block caving, panel caving, sublevel caving and open stoping are often used. Mines are often highly mechanized, sometimes with a high  level of automation. Use of mass mining methods is increasing and is an important consideration in the transition from open-pits to underground mining.

The MassMin conference began in 1982, in Denver, where mine operators, equipment suppliers and researchers met for an open exchange and discussion of ideas on developments, applications and research discoveries. At the fourth MassMin conference in Santiago, Chile, in 2004, it was evident that the common understanding of Mass Mining methods had reached a new level.

Now it is time to meet again. MassMin 2008, which is to be held in Luleå, Sweden, in the north of the Nordic region, is being organized by Luleå University of Technology. Relevant research results and case studies from all around the world will be shared at MassMin 2008.

I wish you a warm welcome to Luleå and I look forward to joining you for several days of interesting discussions and activities under the Midnight Sun during MassMin 2008.
